A wholistic approach to community development might best be understood as demonstrating God’s love and grace to people in such a way that leads them to not only repentance and forgiveness, but also reconciliation and restoration in all the relationships and dimensions of their lives. In CCD practice, operating with a wholistic approach means that we hope that our social involvement will have spiritual consequences as we bear witness to the transforming grace of Jesus Christ and that our spiritual beliefs and practices will be consequential in every possible way. If we ignore what is happening in the world around us, we betray the Word that holds the power to redeem and restore. If we ignore the Word of God, what we bring to the world is void of eternal meaning. Faith and deeds, worship and action, spiritual and material, personal transformation and structural change are all integrated together.
